herva is the artist name of hervè atsè corti. he lives in relative seclusion from the dance music world in the italian countryside around florence and is one of the most intriguing producers to work in house and techno for a while. his early musical life as a drummer, plus his extra-musical interests in engineering and electronics has informed a unique, freeform, and very tactile approach to dance music. its house and techno that doesnt adhere to the usual influences of detroit, chicago or berlin.

limited repress for this mighty double header of highly sought after disco funk rarities from tc james and his fist-o-funk orchestra. originally released on the tiny fist-o-funk label out of nyc, this impossible-to-find 12 inch boasts the incredible tripped-out walter gibbons mix of *get up on your feet (keep on dancin)*. weighing in at an impressive 11 minutes, this mix bears all the gibbons hallmarks - wild psychedelic synth sections, stretched out breaks and an amazing hypnotic dancefloor groove that never lets up the pressure for a second - immense! flip over for the magnificent saverese mix of *bumpsies whipping cream*, a funky-as-hell disco track filled with soaring guitar riffs, b-boy friendly percussion breaks and some very ecstatic female vocals. essential purchase.

it’s now pretty obvious that disco influence has not only been powerful in western clubs. it has also influenced musicians all around the world, and west-indies islands are no exception to the rule. indeed, at that time in the caribbean territories, local musicians and producers seized the sound of their us counterparts, and make it their own, melting-up disco, funk, and boogie (even early rap) elements with some more traditional or local styles. apart from some obvious titles which made it to the charts, very few was known on these productions until recently. from an initial pre-selection of 40 tracks, favorite recordings and waxist teamed up to narrow down the actual tracklist. with no pretention to be exhaustive, this selection represents a tiny sample of a broader ocean of quality caribbean disco/boogie tunes. favorite recordings & waxist are very happy and proud to bring back lights on some of these rare tunes.

when i was 10 years old my father took me to a flea market in a very small city up north in sweden, pitea. there was a little bit of everything being sold there: ski equipment, comics, porcelain figurines and vinyl. it was there and then i came across autobahn by kraftwerk. the thing is, we didn t have a turntable at the house we stayed in, on those cold winter weeks so i had to wait until we came back home to give the record a proper spin. in my mind i played it several times and i thought it was amazing. i imagined it was music from the future. what i thought when i heard it for real? didn t like it at all. the very same feeling i imagined autobahn would sound like is the one i get after listening to ishi vu s debut on omena. these five tracks, you could call it an album if you like, are playful, quirky, dreamy and very addictive. like finding a new friend you know you want to keep for a very long time.

the ep drips with kezs trademark blend of deepness, kicking off with the heads down groover of *bump into the sky*. next up *eagle eye* builds around crisp 909 drums and a super tight bass line. pure classic vibes from start to finish. over on the flip *my joy* is underpinned by deep, jazzy chords and finishing off we have *spiral traffic* which takes things to a new tip entirely with an almost latin feel to the chord patterns.

dead fader returns with his new album *glass underworld*. dead fader is the alter ego of john cohen - former brighton resident, now based in berlin - who has worked relentlessly since 2007 to realise his vision of electronic music. his tracks are characterised by pioneering sound explorations, which on one hand oscillate between sonic extremities and on the other hand carefully craft cinemascope sound worlds. *glass underworld* became a very personal exploration for john, developing further his emotionally tinged brand of techno which he established with the previous ep sun copter. furthermore, the film interstellar visually influenced the album, mapped as an image for cohens tracks to exist in. the vinyl release is limited to 300 copies and comes with download code included.

stuart li, better known as basic soul unit, has been dropping quality records via a litany of highly respected imprints like ostgut ton, creme organization, mule electronic and versatile over the past decade. hypnotic and deep, but always funky, li now brings his rugged house to the dekmantel imprint for the very first time, serving up this finely crafted follow-up to his 2012 debut album.

manchester based producer sameed delivers us a very nice ep for the skylax n°141. after his first weapon -spend ep- on the swedish label local talk, he confirms here his taste for house music with -ma thang-. this new release is perfect to bring a dark and sensual amosphere to a warm up set.

following up the fantastic summer re-release of upsetting keys “empathy” ep, path records follows with its first new catalogue number since 2006. path 008 marks the return of artist fate 258, whose 1999 “why 2k” path 001 ep has been a hotly sought after item on discogs. the three-track ep contains two exciting new mixes of cult classic techno track “the path”. the a-side version “path to hell” is the harder of the pair, a dark edgy journey into the unknown with shuffling 808 rhythms providing much of the melody. “path to heaven” slows the groove down and adds warm juno pads throughout the mix for a very deep detroit flavored techno style. on the final track “heaven or hell” sort of a broken beat downtempo piece, sparse vocals and bladerunner samples mix to complete the dystopian concept. these mixes of “the path” are considered pre-mixes, as they were completed in 1998 before the original release of path 001. fate 258 is a project from brooklyn producer reade truth, known for his work over the last decades on labels such as planet e, sonic groove, n-syde, wurst and strictly rhythm to name a few. limited to 250 worldwide, with the first 100 including full black and white cover art.

this newly inspired project has also been launched as a partnership with hometown friends - nitin and former art department band-mate kenny glasgow in support of an issue very close to their hearts - animal cruelty. white has recently begun work on maac (music against animal cruelty), a charity project started with long time friend and pulse radio founder wade cawood. the charity will serve as a fundraising initiative with plans to galvanize the support of the electronic music industry and to help raise money and awareness to protect african wildlife facing the threat of diminishing population or extinction. social experiment will serve as a non profit record label with 100% of proceeds donated to maac.

ynk’s 2nd ep for polytone is much more than a continuation of his earlier records on polytone and tenderpark. instead, the young artist wants his new ep to be seen as an autonomous work which draws on a multitude of different materials. this leads to a very fluid texture of samples, synths and drum machines and a very detailed structure at first sight - however, all elements fit into each other very nicely and make way for the bigger picture if you take a step back.

si king aka chemical play has been involved in the underground electronic music scene for quite some time now and releasing material under this guise since 2012 via imprints such as bulletdodge, low battery and of course his very own hide + seek imprint launched in early 2015.

after a long time, rhadow and ntfo finally met in the studio again to work on the next edition of sintope s slagare series. but not just another regular session... the romanians went fully analogue for a couple of days without phones and computers - just drum machines and instruments. the result is slagare vol. 5 and comes with two tracks in a very limited vinyl only edition of just 300 copies. so better be quick.
